Burning, Stinging, or Irritation

Dry, irritated eyes can affect everything from screen time and reading to driving and wearing contact lenses. At St. Peter Eyecare Center, we take a personalized approach to dry eye care by identifying factors contributing to your symptoms and recommending treatment options designed to improve comfort and support a healthier ocular surface. Our other locations are bringing dry eye treatment to our range of services soon!
Dry eye occurs when your eyes don't produce enough quality tears or when your tears evaporate too quickly. Common symptoms include:

Burning, Stinging, or Irritation

Red or Watery Eyes

Gritty or Sandy Sensations
Blurred or Fluctuating Vision

Light Sensitivity

Contact Lens Discomfort
Tired or Uncomfortable Eyes
If you're experiencing these symptoms, a dry eye evaluation can help us determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment options.
Depending on your individual needs, your treatment plan may include one or a combination of in-office treatments and at-home care.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive treatment that uses controlled pulses of light around the eyes to address factors associated with inflammation and meibomian gland dysfunction.
The meibomian glands produce oils that help prevent your tears from evaporating too quickly. Supporting healthier gland function may help improve tear-film stability and dry eye symptoms.
IPL is performed conveniently in our office, and your doctor will determine whether it's appropriate for you and recommend a personalized treatment schedule.

Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to deliver photobiomodulation to the treatment area.
LLLT is designed to support cellular activity and help address inflammation and ocular surface conditions associated with dry eye. It can be used alone or alongside IPL and other dry eye therapies when appropriate.

Both are light-based treatments, but they work differently. IPL delivers controlled pulses of light to address factors associated with inflammation and meibomian gland dysfunction. LLLT uses low-level light to support photobiomodulation and cellular activity.
Your doctor may recommend one or both depending on the underlying causes of your dry eye.
During IPL, you may notice brief flashes of light and a warming sensation. LLLT is designed to be gentle and comfortable without the intense flashes associated with IPL. Both are non-invasive, in-office treatments.
There's no one-size-fits-all schedule. Your doctor will recommend the number and frequency of treatments based on your symptoms, diagnosis, and response to treatment.
Not necessarily. Your doctor will evaluate your eyes, eyelids, medical history, and other factors to determine which dry eye treatments are appropriate for you.
The right at-home products can also play an important role in managing dry eye between visits.
